Description

X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) is a powerful and sensitive surface chemistry analysis technique and, as such, it requires very clean surfaces. Most hydrogen storage materials are very sensitive to air exposure, so they need to be protected when they are taken from the synthesis environment to the XPS instrument. Sandia has designed and fabricated two new custom hardware devices for ultra-high vacuum-clean transfer of air-sensitive samples between argon glove boxes (or other air-free environments) and XPS instruments at Sandia and at the Advanced Light Source (LBNL) synchrotron.
